Translator Article; Impress your date!
I have worked in the culinary industry most of my adult life... though more recently I have had a sabbatical of sorts in not participating for reasons which include travel and study.
I look at the dynamic of it and realize a tension which has loads of potential in various ways beyond the average market considerations. In no uncertain terms, there is an area of ineptitude which has the makings of a grand display concerning human nature and said foibles usually accompanying the species known as human.
Guys are always looking to impress. Girls are always looking to be impressed (regardless of the common and most times postured perception).
Guys are trying to do so with the greatest ease possible and girls are trying to find the greatest amount of such impression as some indicator of various things.
In very simple terms... this is very much the basis and founding of industry... at least, it is a substantial part of those initial inspirations. Manufactured goods were manufactured for good reasons... including the ease with which to address such social hurdles and areas of play.
Why make something from raw materials when something supposedly just as comparable is available as per purchase?
Considering these factors while contemplating the food service industry brought me to the consideration... more so the consideration concerning things such as instructional cooking shows.... that most guys watching them are either watching them to see where the general market is going currently, or to find some way to impress some girl.
Then it occurred to me that many of those guys are all but entirely inept. All thumbs and left feet so to speak. Most times challenged even within the simple... though somehow mystical presentations available.
It then occurred to me that most of what is presented in such medium, can then be done with a far greater ease than even that which is presented... namely through using already existing products to supplant the preparation intensive ingredients.
Why should a college freshman... maybe sophomore... have to drag themselves through the act of making mashed potato's? Boxed potato's are readily available and with a proper mixture, would serve the purpose nicely.
Why shock and peel tomato's? Why reduce a demi glace?
If things are going as planned, their date will be half in the bag by the time dinner is ready anyhow! And besides... too much food then ruins the effect of the alcohol... there would be no point in getting them drunk to begin with if the decision making capacity isn't thoroughly effected.
And that could spell the end of human kind on a large scale!
The idea here is not to disrupt the mating patterns... but more to augment and heighten the experience. Something to take the edge off of that next morning groan as the previous evening washes over in foggy memories... At least dinner would shine through a bit.
I think a cooking show in that line of thought, would be best viewed with a moniker along the lines of; CAN YOU BOIL WATER?
How could it miss in that frame of thought?
